Baby Food Taste Test
A sensory challenge that separates the super-tasters from the rest. Guests blind-taste various baby food purees and try to identify the ingredients.
What you need
- 8-10 jars of commercial baby food (mix of fruits, vegetables, and meats for variety)
- Small plastic tasting spoons (lots of them)
- Paper plates or napkins
- A permanent marker
- Paper and pens for guests
- Master answer key
Setup
- Remove the labels from all the baby food jars (or cover them completely with foil/paper).
- Number the lids of the jars from 1 to 10 with a marker.
- Create a secret master list matching the number to the correct flavor.
- Set up a tasting station with the jars, spoons, and napkins.
How to play
- Give each guest a piece of paper and a pen. They number their sheet 1 to 10.
- Guests approach the tasting station, take a fresh spoon for each jar, and take a small taste.
- They write down what they think the main ingredients are (e.g., 'Peas and Carrots', 'Banana and Apple').
- To prevent double-dipping, remind guests to discard their spoon immediately after one taste.
- After everyone has tasted all the jars, the host reveals the actual flavors.
- Award 1 point for a partially correct answer and 2 points for exactly matching the label. The highest score wins.
Variations
- Blindfolded Taste Test: Have couples compete. One partner is blindfolded while the other feeds them the baby food.
- Gourmet Purees: Make your own purees and see if guests can guess the fancy ingredients.
