Shortlist insights
Paste the whole shortlist. Get the shape of it back.
What it does
Shortlist insights analyzes a pasted list of names (comma or line separated) and counts what the catalog knows: how the list breaks down by origin and by gender. Names that are not in the catalog are flagged separately, so you know exactly which entries the counts are based on. Copy the names, share them, or print the result. Since the tools consolidation, this tool lives on the Compare names page as the Insights mode — the Try-it link below lands you right on it, and the old address redirects there too.
Who it’s for
Anyone with a list of 10–30 names and a feeling they cannot articulate — this turns the feeling into counts.
How to use it, step by step
- Paste your names into the box, separated by commas or line breaks.
- Tap Count and read the origin and gender breakdowns.
- Check the "Not in catalog" note so you know which names were counted.
- Copy, share, or print the summary for the shortlist file.
What you get
Origin counts and gender counts across your list, the matched names, and a flag list of names not in the catalog.
✦ A worked example
You give itA 14-name shortlist pasted from your notes app.
You getA breakdown showing, say, half the list is Hebrew-origin and two-thirds girl names — the moment you realize what you have actually been choosing.
