As the Pan American Health Organization prepares to review the United States’ measles elimination status next week, confirmed cases have reached 5,182 for 2026. Parents should also stay current on product recalls and routine newborn care recommendations.
Measles update
The CDC’s latest count shows 5,182 confirmed measles cases nationwide, the highest annual total since 1991. Recent deaths have been reported in Wisconsin (an infant), Pennsylvania (sixth of the year), and New York. The large majority of cases continue to occur in unvaccinated individuals. The PAHO verification commission meets November 10–13 and is widely expected to determine whether endemic transmission has been re-established.
Product and safety notes
Continue to check for any open recalls on infant formula, toddler snacks, sleep products, and furniture. The Once Upon a Farm Tractor Wheels bars remain under recall for choking hazard; families who still have them should discard them. No new major formula shortages have been announced, but vigilance with lot codes is advised.
What parents can do
We will update as the PAHO decision and any new developments become available.
