Newborns breathe mostly through their noses, so a stuffy nose can wreck feeding and sleep. A parent-powered aspirator clears it with gentle suction you control, sealing at the outside of the nostril rather than inserting anything into it.

A disposable filter sits inside the tube between the nose piece and the mouthpiece, keeping the arrangement hygienic. A drop or two of saline first loosens mucus — most parents find the combination clears far more than a bulb syringe, which is also hard to clean properly inside.

Use it before feeds and bedtime, when congestion bites hardest, and clean every part after each use. A young baby who struggles to breathe, feeds poorly, or seems unwell needs a clinician, not another round of suction.

Highlights

Worth knowing: Filters are a small ongoing cost, and the tube should be replaced if it ever looks worn — factor spares into the first purchase.

Price note: Nasal aspirators are often $10–16.
