What it does

The Sleep sounds machine is a real, working sound machine built on the Web Audio API: layer white, pink, and brown noise with ocean, fan, and heartbeat sounds in a multi-layer mixer, set the master volume, name and save your soundscape presets (anbu.sleep-sounds.presets), and set an auto-off timer with a 2-minute soft fade-out so the silence does not startle anyone. Extras include an ambient nightlight glow (~60 BPM breathing pulse), a Nightstand mode, shareable setup links for caregivers, and nap logging (anbu.sleep.logs). Keyboard shortcuts: Space play/pause, M mute, N nightstand, / volume, Esc exit. 100% browser-powered — zero server recording.

Who it’s for

Anyone whose baby sleeps best to a fan that does not exist, a heartbeat that does not tire, or an ocean that never checks the weather.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Tap sounds to layer them (start with brown noise or heartbeat) and set the master volume.
  2. Name and save the mix as a preset once it works.
  3. Set the auto-off timer if you want the fade-out after sleep lands.
  4. Switch to Nightstand mode for the glow, and share the setup link with caregivers.
  5. Log the nap when it happens — future schedule-you says thanks.

What you get

A layered, saveable, shareable browser soundscape with timer, fade-out, nightlight, and nap logging.

✦ A worked example

You give it

Brown noise + heartbeat at low volume, timer 45 minutes.

You get

The nursery hums softly, fades out gently at minute 45, and nobody tiptoes past a creaky sound machine switch ever again.

💡 Tips & tricks

  • Brown noise is the deep, rumbly one most babies (and adults) prefer over hissy white noise — A/B test during one nap.
  • Keep volume modest and the device across the room; the mixer makes it easy to overdo, and the fade-out is kinder than a hard stop.
