Popularity map
A sketch of where a name feels at home across the U.S.
What it does
The Popularity map sketches how one name might sit across U.S. census divisions, shading regions by intensity. It combines a hash-based regional sketch with the name's catalog popularity score when the name is in the catalog — and it is upfront that this is a sketch, not SSA state rankings. You can copy or share the map.
Who it’s for
The geographically curious: "Will this name feel common where we live, or where we are moving?"
How to use it, step by step
- Type a name (try Olivia) and tap Map it.
- Read the shaded census-division sketch and the catalog note, if the name is in the catalog.
- Copy or share the map to keep it with your shortlist.
What you get
A regional intensity sketch for one name, annotated with its catalog status and score when available.

You getA division-by-division sketch suggesting where the name reads as familiar versus fresh — a conversation starter, not a census.
💡 Tips & tricks
- Treat the map as a vibe check and the Trend forecaster as the numbers check; together they give the full popularity picture.
- Names outside the catalog still get a hashed sketch — the tool labels it as such, so you know which parts are data.
Enough reading — the tool itself is one tap away, and it is free.
