What it does

The Baby budget studio separates the money into its two true shapes: recurring monthly expenses (diapers & wipes, feeding, nursery consumables, clothing & laundry, health & safety, childcare, gear, emergency buffer) and upfront one-time setup costs (travel gear, nursery furniture, decor & lighting). Add custom line items (they persist via bn_budget_custom_items), pick a currency, and calculate: monthly totals, category distribution breakdowns, financial insights, and an Estimated First-Year Grand Total. Partner "room" sync lets both parents build the same budget live, and the export is styled as an Official Baby Budget Agreement — a financial pact, signatures of the heart implied.

Who it’s for

Partners who budget better together with the numbers on the table — ideally before the registry, not after the receipts.

How to use it, step by step

  1. On tab 1, fill the recurring monthly line items and the upfront setup costs; add custom items for your real life.
  2. Tap Calculate Budget.
  3. Review tab 2's breakdowns: monthly distribution, upfront breakdown, and the first-year grand total.
  4. Sync the room with your partner (link or QR) and adjust together.
  5. Export the budget agreement from tab 5.

What you get

Monthly recurring totals, upfront setup totals, a first-year grand total, and category breakdowns — exportable as a budget agreement.

✦ A worked example

You give it

Diapers $90/mo, feeding $140/mo, childcare the elephant at $1,200/mo; crib and stroller upfront.

You get

A monthly number, a setup number, and a first-year grand total that finally explains where the money goes — with childcare visibly running the show.

💡 Tips & tricks

  • The emergency reserve buffer line is the most skipped and most thanked item in the whole sheet.
  • Run the Diaper and Formula estimators first and paste their outputs in — the budget inherits their honesty.
