What it does

The Apgar studio teaches and records the newborn assessment given at 1 and 5 minutes after delivery: five categories scored 0–2 — Appearance (color), Pulse, Grimace (reflex response), Activity (muscle tone), and Respiration — summed to 10. Each option is described in plain clinical language (from "pale or blue all over" to "completely pink"), a birth timer helps stage the 1- and 5-minute reads, scores log into a 1-min vs 5-min trend history, and the studio can sync with your partner or care team and print an Apgar Evaluation Certificate with baby name and physician/midwife. Educational: the real Apgar is assigned by the delivery team — this helper explains what those numbers meant.

Who it’s for

Expectant parents who want to understand the first numbers they will hear in the delivery room — and note-keepers recording them afterward.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Optionally start the birth timer at delivery.
  2. Select one option in each of the five A-P-G-A-R categories.
  3. Tap Show score for the total and its clinical band, with the letter-by-letter breakdown.
  4. Log the 1-minute and 5-minute scores to build the trend.
  5. Copy, share, or print the certificate for the baby book.

What you get

An Apgar total out of 10 with per-letter breakdown and band, a 1/5-minute score history, and a printable certificate.

✦ A worked example

You give it

Pink body with blue extremities (1), pulse over 100 (2), vigorous cry (2), active motion (2), strong respiration (2).

You get

9/10 with the breakdown showing exactly which letter gave up the point — the delivery-room number, demystified.

💡 Tips & tricks

  • A 1-minute score is a snapshot, not a verdict — the 5-minute trend is the meaningful read, which is why the log tracks both.
  • Read this before the birth, not during: knowing the five words in advance makes the delivery room much less mysterious.

Enough reading — the tool itself is one tap away, and it is free.
