Parent briefing: last 24 hours wrap (24 September 2026)

Short notes from the last day that still change a parent’s Friday plan. Celebrity pregnancy announcements are omitted.

## 1. National Seat Check Saturday is tomorrow (26 September)

Child Passenger Safety Week runs 20–26 September. NHTSA: correctly installed seats cut fatal injury risk by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers. About half of seats are still installed or used wrong. Saturday is the free-check day.

Before the weekend drive: rear-face as long as the seat allows; harness at the shoulders; no bulky coat under the straps; children under 13 in the back. Use NHTSA’s inspection locator. New campaign line this week: “They Grow. You Check.”

## 2. Button-battery light-up toys — recall expanded

The ZMC Group expansion now covers about 245,000 light-up sticks, unicorn headbands, jelly rings, and heart balloon flowers sold through July 2026. Children can reach the button cell. Stop use and follow the CPSC refund path.

## 3. September 17 toy actions are still in living rooms

Esjay busy boards (~276,000; detachable red knobs), SHEIN pull-and-chew teethers (too-long silicone strings), Melissa & Doug Target fire-truck boards (hose port), and water-bead squishy toys. Search the brand on cpsc.gov/Recalls before a play date.

## 4. UK placenta accreta inquiry is taking evidence

HSSIB opened a national investigation on 22 September into antenatal diagnosis of placenta accreta spectrum and the referral path into specialist centres. Campaigners say 61% of cases were missed before labour. Prior C-section or uterine surgery: ask at the next scan whether attachment at the scar was reviewed.

## 5. RSV is a stock-and-billing question

If you are due this autumn, ask the birth hospital in writing whether nirsevimab or clesrovimab is stocked and billed as a routine newborn medication. ACOG’s pregnancy RSV shot window still runs through early March in current US guidance.
