Three items. Not medical advice.
1. SUID disparity, not a new sleep gadget
A JAMA Network Open paper (22 Sep 2026) covering ~58 million U.S. births found sudden unexpected infant death now explains more than a third of the Black–white infant mortality gap. Rates rose among infants born to Black mothers after 2020 and stayed flatter among white infants. ABC sleep (alone, back, crib) still stands. Housing and night-shift reality still decide who can keep it. Deep dive: SUID gap and safe sleep.
2. RSV antibody window is open — first season ≠ second season
1 October is the usual start for nirsevimab (Beyfortus) and clesrovimab (Enflonsia) in most of the contiguous U.S., through 31 March unless local health departments extend. Infants under 8 months who did not get protection from a maternal RSV vaccine or a birth-dose antibody still need a clinic ask. High-risk children 8–19 months are a different, narrower ask. They are not the same shot decision.
3. Leftover September recalls still in bags
Love to Dream portable sleep machines (~4,000 units): fire and burn hazard. Stop using; register at lovetodream.com/recall. Also still circulating: marketplace infant walkers that fail stair-edge tests, Skip Hop Elmo freeze teethers, Melissa & Doug fire-truck busy boards. Check CPSC before you hand a used product to a sibling.
