Parent Briefing — 17 October 2026

As of mid-October, the CDC reports 4,410 confirmed measles cases in the United States for 2026, up 330 in the latest weekly update. Pennsylvania has confirmed 1,260 cases across 43 counties, with 238 hospitalizations and five confirmed measles-associated deaths (a sixth under review). The CDC is deploying additional support, including a disease detective, to the state.

What parents can do: Check MMR status, ask about early dose for 6-11 month infants in outbreak areas, watch for classic symptoms, isolate and call ahead.
