Three things worth a fridge-note tonight. None of this is medical advice.
1. CMV: hearing-only screens miss quiet cases
A Cleveland Clinic NICU study published today found that testing every NICU baby for congenital CMV caught about twice as many infections as testing only babies who failed a hearing screen. The AAP’s 21 September clinical report already endorsed “hearing-targeted plus expanded” testing, not a national universal mandate. If your newborn failed a hearing screen, or is in a NICU, ask whether a CMV test was sent in the first three weeks. Deep dive: Most CMV babies look well at birth.
2. RSV window opens 1 October in most of the U.S.
Infant monoclonal antibody (nirsevimab or clesrovimab) is generally timed October through March. Babies born in that window should get it in the birth hospital when eligible. Pregnancy RSV PreF (Abrysvo) is a separate clock: ACOG now runs 1 September through 1 March at 32 0/7–36 6/7 weeks. Most infants do not need both. Ask the obstetric and pediatric teams who is covering this baby.
3. Leftover recall: Melissa & Doug fire-truck busy board
The hose port can loosen and detach. Stop use. Register with Melissa & Doug for a replacement, $30 check, or $40 store credit. Also still in the house for many families: Skip Hop Elmo teether (do not freeze), Love to Dream sleep machine fire recall, marketplace infant walkers under stop-use warnings.
