## Background

Portable sleep machines sit close to cribs because they are sold as night lights plus white noise. Many now use a small lithium-ion pack and a generic USB cable. That combination is convenient and hard to police: parents lose the original charger, hotels supply a different brick, and a “fast charge” cable looks identical to the one in the box.

Love To Dream’s portable sleep machine (sounds, volume, night light, brown handle, USB cable) is one of those gadgets. The United Kingdom’s Office for Product Safety and Standards posted a recall on 10 September 2026 for model LTD-SM23 with date codes 7T12TN, 7W15TN, and 8P01TN after flagging a fire risk during charging. U.S. retailers kept selling the line through September.

## What changed this week

On 24 September 2026 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission listed Love To Dream portable sleep machines, about 4,000 units, model LTD-SM23 with date code **7W15TN only**. Hazard language: the lithium-ion battery can overheat if the charger is not compatible with the unit, posing fire and burn hazards. No incidents reported in the U.S. notice.

Remedy is a refund, not a replacement charger. Owners register at lovetodream.com/recall, mark the unit RECALL, and dispose of the pack under local lithium rules. Sold about $60 from February 2025 through September 2026 at Target and Nordstrom and online at the brand site, Amazon, Walmart Marketplace, Babylist, and Posh Mommy.

The same day CPSC posted about ten other recalls, including children’s light-up accessories with button-battery risks. The sleep machine stood out because it is designed to sit running overnight in a child’s room.

The brand and the U.S. notice frame the problem as a mismatched charger. That is technically true for many lithium packs: the wrong voltage or a damaged cable can push heat into a small cell.

Safety-minded parents and product lawyers read it the other way. A crib-side battery that depends on the owner always using the original brick has already failed a closed-loop test. If the pack cannot refuse a bad charger, the product should not live next to bedding.

There is also a jurisdiction split. The UK list includes two extra date codes. A U.S. household that imported a unit, or bought one that looks identical, may be holding a code the American recall does not name. Waiting for the narrower U.S. list is the legal default; treating every LTD-SM23 as suspect is the cautious default.
